2018 Staging Trends for Sellers

According to a 2017 survey by the National Association of Realtors, a majority of real estate professionals believe staging increases the sale price of the home anywhere from 1 to 15 percent! In the past, it was advised to make the home as neutral as possible, but as  Nicole Kennedy, a home staging expert in Piedmont, CA tells us,  “Staging is becoming a bit more personal and less stale than it has been in the past. It used to be standard to remove all family photos and personal items from the house, but today’s buyers prefer to see a house with a little personality. They want to see a ‘real’ house that they can imagine themselves in and small, personal details that create an aspirational image can help reach buyers on an emotional level.”

Here are three hot trends to incorporate into your staging strategy without incurring too much expense: LVT, or luxury vinyl tile, is fast becoming the most popular flooring option, at least on the main floor. It’s durable, affordable, and adds a clean, high-end look while still being neutral enough to appeal to a wide range of buyers. In the kitchen, don’t fall for the hype around quartz countertops. Granite is still the most popular look and won’t be going out of style anytime soon. Lastly, don’t shy away from a touch of glamour with metallic touches and room accents. HGTV and home design magazines have popularized this look and brought it to the mainstream.
